I know the election is over and done with, but I just can't seem to understand why this country was in such a huge favor of electing Obama. "Change, change, change" is what he preached, yet he never seemed to define what this "change" was going to entail. His ideals regarding taxes, the war, immigration, abortion (http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/obama_and_infanticide.html), and health care (rather, socialism), among other things, are ludicrous. It's just extremely disappointing. They say only 25% of the population voted.. I wonder how many of those people actually knew what they were voting for? All of the hype this election was focused towards the youth of the nation; the easily-swayed teenagers that haven't a clue about politics but think it's cool a black man is running for office and promising anti-bush strategies. Sad. The media and celebrity names poured millions of dollars into Obama's campaign. They ran ads all over MTV promoting Obama and the "change" he would bring. But just as Obama did throughout his entire campaign, they flaunted the "change" but didn't elaborate on it. "We need a change we can believe in" was an often used phrase, yet it ended right there, with nothing more than those words. Did anyone stop to think maybe I should research this so-called "change"? Apparently not.
And the issue that gets me more than any other with this election is the fact that race played such a huge influence. I am not a racist, but I will not support a black man as president of this country just because he's black. Obama is only stirring up the racism pot once more. People say the election was not about race, but it was entirely. There is proof that Obama won over the African-American and Latino vote, and for some reason the percentage of black people that voted for Obama was a hot topic during last night's election. Why? Why, if race wasn't an issue? Racism will never die in this country and for only one reason...one that I won't discuss at the moment. Presidential candidates should be hidden from the public, like in earlier days. Americans would be forced to cast their vote based upon the president's ideals and opinions, not their appearance or age or demeanor.
I'm just upset. Barack Obama is a terrible politician and does not deserve his place in the Oval Office. Now those of us who disagree with the president-elect must listen endlessly to the over-zealous Oprah, Reverend Al Sharpton, Perez Hilton, Brad Pitt, and all of the other A-listers that haven't a single clue.
On a brighter note, several state propositions either passed or failed for the better (gay marriage has been banned in California!). Check out this link from Drudge: http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D948TRV80&show_article=1
What a discouraging election as a first-time voter.
